Many people encounter affiliate marketing, do a little bit of research, and then jump to a conclusion.
They either decide that it is not for them, or jump in full of enthusiasm with very little research.
In this article we are going to look at the truth of the matter.
If you have been considering starting affiliate marketing, or have heard of it but think you do not know enough to start, then this article will give you the basics.
Hopefully it will help you decide, “Is affiliate marketing right for you?”
What is affiliate marketing? – The basics
Affiliate marketing is referring internet traffic to third party websites and products.
That’s it in it’s most simple, boiled down, form.
Granted, there is a lot more to actually making that happen with any degree of success, but that is the overall aim.
When presented like that, it can actually seem very easy to some people, and TOO easy to other people.
It can sound like it can be very easy to learn and therefore be successful at.
Other people see it as “Too good to be true”
But, the fact remains, that is how it works at it’s core.
An affiliate joins an affiliate program and this gives them access to links to the products included within the program.
The links contain a special I.D. that let’s the affiliate program know who referred the people to their website.
It also lets the program know who to pay commission to if any purchases are made by the referred people.
The affiliate then creates content such as blog articles and perhaps YouTube videos.
They will post the special links within their blog articles or in the description below the video.
Next they will promote their articles and videos on social media in order to drive traffic to them.
The aim is to get as many people interested in the products as possible.
When people click on the links, they are taken to the third party website that set up the affiliate program.
There they will find products that the affiliate suggested.
If any of the people make a purchase, the affiliate earns a commission.
The commission is paid to them by the affiliate program.
As I said, it all seems really simple and straight forward.

This article will answer that question and also be updated periodically with links to articles that answer other common questions.

Does it take a lot of work?
Now, here we start looking at the truth of the matter that most people do not consider before starting, or dismissing, affiliate marketing.
Truth be told, there is a lot more involved than just posting links and making money.
Below I will link to articles that go into far greater detail on each of the aspects I will now mention.
Choosing a niche
The first thing that needs to be done, and is possibly the most important step, is choosing an affiliate niche.
Your choice of niche is going to dictate the products you will be promoting, the types of customers you will be marketing to, the type of content you will be creating, and even where and how you will market.
Your niche is the topic that will be the backbone of your affiliate business and efforts.
You have to choose a niche that is not only profitable with products that sell, it also has to be something you are knowledgeable and interested in.
You can always gain knowledge by researching online, but interest is a whole other thing.
If you are going to be successful, you will have to spend a lot of time creating content.
A LOT of time.
I’m talking post after post for months, if not years on end.
Perhaps not daily, but at least several times a week.
You had better be very interested in what you are promoting, otherwise you will get bore and give up very quickly.
Your choice of niche can greatly impact your target market and therefore your potential income.
It will dictate what kind of products you promote, your type of customers, and also the amount of revenue potential in many cases.
It will also be the topic you will be spending a lot of time working within, so your interest and knowledge levels are very important factors.
We will go step by step through the process of starting off on the right foot.
Setting up and maintaining a blog.
As I mentioned above, if you use blogging as your core part of your marketing campaign, you are going to be spending a lot of time creating blog articles.
Setting up the blog can actually be done relatively quickly. A few hours or a days work according on the experience of the affiliate.
First time setting up a blog, there are going to be methods and terms that the newcomer ahs never encountered before.
But, that said, it is still nowhere as much work as actually maintaining the blog after it is set up and is live on the internet.
A typical blog post, if you want it to rank in search engines for competitive terms, should be 1500 words plus.
It should also be researched and search engine optimized.
Some bloggers will post every single day, others will post a few times a week.
Whatever the case, if you wish to be successful, you will have to put in time and effort.
A lot of people are interested in starting a blog, but it can look intimidating at first glance.
There are lots of new terms and phrases to learn and various new platforms to become proficient with.
There is plenty of information available online, but here I will put together a basic step by step guide for anyone considering starting a blog.
For this guide we are going to assume that you already have a topic or niche chosen already.
Can anyone do it?
If someone is passionate about a topic and prepared to put in the time and effort, then the answer is a definite yes.
The reason I wrote this article was to show the two types of people I mentioned above what is really involved and why money CAN be made.
For those that think it sounds easy and are ready to jump in, then, now you realize that it actually takes work.
It is not simply a case of posting links and the money rolls in.
For those that think it sounds TOO easy, well now you know the truth.
Anyone can do affiliate marketing, but, they have to be prepared to put in the time and effort required to succeed.
A lot of people are under the impression that in order to do affiliate marketing you have to be some kind of tech genius or heavily experienced in coding.
This is absolutely not the case!
In this article we shall look at how anyone can do affiliate marketing and some of the types of people that do.
Can you really make money with affiliate marketing?
Yes, some people make a hell of a lot of money.
Others make a full time living.
But, as I said throughout this article.
It takes time, effort, and the correct niche.
The people who make a lot of money do not achieve that level of success with minimal effort.
Granted, the may work smart, but rest assured, they also work hard.
The full time people are exactly that.
People who work full time at affiliate marketing.
But rest assured, there is a lot of money to be made.
When it comes to affiliate marketing there are often wild claims by both sides of the fence.
Some will claim that it is virtually a license to print money and you can make millions with ease.
Others will say that it doesn’t work and it is some kind of scam.
In this article we will look at the truth of the matter.
